Providing Victims with 24/7 Support and Resources – Working to End Child Sex Trafficking
The world of human trafficking is a dark and often hidden one, where exploitation thrives in silence and victims are frequently overlooked or misunderstood. Many individuals experiencing trafficking do not fit common stereotypes, making it even more critical for community members to stay informed and vigilant.
At Gingerbread House Child Advocacy Center, there is a strong commitment to addressing this issue head-on through a coordinated and victim-centered approach. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team that includes law enforcement, healthcare providers, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), and advocacy professionals, the center has developed a specialized 24–72-hour human trafficking response team. This rapid-response model ensures that when a potential victim is identified, they are met with immediate, trauma-informed care and support. Services may include forensic interviews, medical evaluations, crisis counseling, and connection to long-term resources such as safe housing, legal assistance, and ongoing therapeutic support.
When you see signs of trouble, there’s no time to waste. It is important to contact your local law enforcement or the FBI as well as DCFS should you suspect a child is in danger of human trafficking.

Human trafficking is a traumatic and life-threatening experience that can have lasting effects on victims. While providing support and resources is essential, prevention is one of the most powerful tools in combating trafficking. That’s why the Gingerbread House offers free human trafficking prevention trainings for professionals, parents and caregivers, and youth.
Our team provides training for adults focused on:
- Understanding what child sex trafficking is
- Recognizing warning signs in children and teens
- Knowing how and when to report suspected trafficking
The Gingerbread House is proud to offer Not A #Number, an interactive, five-module prevention curriculum developed by Love146 for youth ages 12–18. Facilitated by our trained staff, this program empowers teens to:
- Recognize the signs of human trafficking
- Reduce their vulnerabilities
- Identify and build healthy support systems
Educating adolescents and teens about the dangers of human trafficking is vital. Our staff are certified facilitators of the Love146 Not A #Number program, helping equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to stay safe.
