Prevention Education

Our passionate and dedicated Education team is here to provide quality prevention education to children, teen, and adults. Our Education services are completely free of charge and can be utilized outside of normal operating hours, including weekends.

At the Gingerbread House, we believe that prevention starts with education. Our Knowledge is Power© curriculum teaches children and teens that their voices are important and deserve to be heard. Through this curriculum, we hope to educate and encourage students to use their voice to stand up and speak out if someone does something to them that is inappropriate or makes them feel uncomfortable. Our program uses developmentally appropriate language to educate students pre-K through 12th grade about body safety and empowerment. On the following page, you will find a breakdown of the curriculum for each grade grouping.

All of our Education Programs are FREE of charge! To schedule, contact our Director of Education, Holly Tony, by clicking the button!

Knowledge is Power: Prevention Education for Children and Teens

Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade: We present animated videos that introduce two age-appropriate and fun stuffed animal characters, Chip and Zoey, who help identify private body parts as the parts of the body covered by a swimsuit, appropriate touches, and what to do if someone touches them in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Second and Third Grade: During the 2nd and 3rd grade presentations, children build on everything from the previous years’ presentation. We also talk with them about their Safety Network and they are encouraged to identify the adults in their lives that they trust.

Fourth and Fifth Grade: We show an age-appropriate video as well as engage in discussions on body safety. Because of the growing occurrence of internet crimes against children, we include a brief discussion on how children can stay safe on their phones, tablets, and computers.

Middle School Students: This presentation teaches students about internet safety and safe relationships. We talk about the importance of feeling safe and trusted in all relationships, explaining how to recognize unsafe situations. We also talk to the students about social media and how to keep themselves safe while using apps and online gaming.

High School Students: Like the middle school presentation, we teach internet safety and safe relationship tips, but more in depth. High School students are taught that what is posted on the internet is very hard to get taken off and they are encouraged to think before posting content that could affect their future. We also briefly cover topics such as human trafficking and how to report suspected abuse.

Love146: Not a #Number: Not a #Number is an interactive child trafficking and exploitation prevention curriculum designed to provide youth ages 12-18 with information and skills to empower them to make safe choices when faced with potentially exploitative situations. This curriculum is designed into five modules that will teach youth how to protect themselves through information, critical thinking, and skill development.
